We have the most need for kitchen helpers and drivers. This includes regulars, as well as substitutes. Other volunteer opportunities may exist, such as shoppers, cooks and team leaders. All volunteers are required to have PA background clearances.

Kitchen Volunteers

Kitchen helpers prepare the menu developed by the Kitchen Manager. The work varies from cutting fresh vegetables to filling containers with prepared salads to making sandwiches for the bagged meal. Kitchen helpers also help fill and seal the individual hot trays of food. The work begins around 8:00am and concludes when pots, pans and dishes are done around 11:00am. You must be at least 16 years old to work in the kitchen.

We operate our food preparation at the Lititz Church of the Brethren, 300 W. Orange St, Lititz.

Drivers

Drivers follow a route sheet to deliver approx. 10-15 meals to clients. Lititz Meals on Wheels currently has 5 different routes, all of which start at the Lititz Church of the Brethren. Drivers follow individual instructions as to how to deliver the meals to each client. Many clients have coolers on their porch where drivers can put the food or may instruct drivers to ring the doorbell and they'll come to the door. Drivers often work in teams of 2 so that one person can drive and the other can navigate. As a driver, you will most likely start as a substitute until a regular route is available.
